🧠 New Study: VR Therapy for Phantom Pain
A scientific article has been published:
“The effectiveness of VR therapy using the VRNOW simulator for phantom pain following lower limb amputation” (p. 52) (click on the title to access the article)
The study was conducted in a Ukrainian clinical setting and focuses on one of the most challenging rehabilitation issues—phantom pain following amputation.
📊 The study included 36 patients who had undergone lower limb amputation and were undergoing pre-prosthetic rehabilitation and the prosthetic fitting phase.
VR therapy using VRNOW was applied as part of a comprehensive approach to recovery.
📉 What the results showed:
▪️ phantom pain completely disappeared in 44.4% of patients
▪️ the number of patients with constant pain decreased significantly (from 30 to 8)
▪️ the intensity and duration of pain episodes decreased
▪️ Quality of life indicators (SF-36) improved, particularly on the pain scale
VR therapy can be viewed as a tool for addressing central pain mechanisms and restoring “body image.”
