In a column for Ekonomichna Pravda, VRNOW Lab co-founder Artem Chyhyrynskyi writes that the war has made medical technology in Ukraine not just a promising field, but a vital part of the recovery system. Due to the growing need for rehabilitation, pain management, and scaling up patient care, Ukraine’s MedTech sector has begun to develop much more rapidly.
The author emphasizes that Ukraine has a chance to become an R&D hub for MedTech in Europe, as innovations here can undergo clinical testing more quickly and receive practical feedback from doctors and patients. To achieve this, in his view, regulatory “sandboxes,” transparent pathways for evidence-based validation, and better alignment with EU and U.S. market requirements are needed.
The article cites VRNOW as an example of such a model—a Ukrainian solution for rehabilitation and managing phantom pain that has progressed from clinical cases to a certified medical device. The author emphasizes that such cases demonstrate that Ukraine can be not only a birthplace of ideas but also an environment where medical innovations undergo real-world validation and are prepared for scaling.
