The first VR simulator for combating phantom pain has been installed in Lviv
25 November 2025

In Lviv, the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center installed the first Ukrainian VR trainer, VRNOW, to combat phantom pain in patients after amputations. The system operates in “Virtual Limb Mode”: a virtual model of the lost limb sends a signal to the brain about its presence, which helps reduce pain and restore control over the body.

The simulator was developed by a Ukrainian MedTech team and will be used specifically for the rehabilitation of defenders who were injured during the war. As part of the fundraising campaign to purchase it, Lviv residents donated part of their public transport fares.

The head of the UNBROKEN Center noted that amputees often suffer not only from physical injuries but also from prolonged phantom sensations; the use of VRNOW will significantly alleviate pain and become a tool for the comprehensive work of the rehabilitation team.
